Quick Answer Wonderlic Select (Wonscore) is a three-component employment assessment: Cognitive Ability (50 questions / 12 minutes), Personality (150 statements / Big Five), and Motivation (30–58 forced-choice triads / 7 DRIVERS). Employers receive one composite score. Personality and Motivation have no right or wrong answers, scoring is based on consistency and job-fit profile. Most candidates only prepare for the cognitive section; all three components count. Last updated: · By Michael Lerner · Free cognitive diagnostic →

What is the Wonscore?

The Wonscore is the three-part employer-facing version of the Wonderlic Select assessment. It combines a 50-question cognitive ability test (the WPT-Q), a 150-statement personality questionnaire, and a 30 to 58-item forced-choice motivation triad set. Your employer receives a single composite score that reflects all three components, weighted for the specific role you applied to.

It is used by Fortune 500 and mid-market employers as a more complete candidate evaluation than the standalone WPT-R. Most candidates only prepare for the cognitive section because that is what every other prep course covers. The personality and motivation sections are the whitespace.

Component 1

Cognitive ability

50 questions, 12 minutes. Same format and pace as the standard WPT.

Component 2

Personality

150 Likert-scale statements. Big Five model, four employer-facing Success Indices.

Component 3

Motivation

30 to 58 forced-choice triads. RIASEC interest categories, role-fit profile.

What you're actually being assessed on

Three assessments. One composite score. You need to know all three.

Wonderlic Select isn't an upgraded version of the standard WPT. It's a fundamentally different instrument, one that profiles you cognitively, psychologically, and motivationally in a single session.

1

Cognitive Ability Test

The foundation. Fifty questions covering verbal reasoning, numerical ability, spatial reasoning, and logical deduction. No calculator. High time pressure, 14.4 seconds per question. This is the component most candidates prepare for, and where the largest score improvements are available.

2

Personality Assessment (PCI)

150 statements evaluated on a Likert scale. Based on the Big Five / OCEAN model. No right or wrong answers, but your response pattern is analyzed for internal consistency and alignment with the role's ideal profile. Employers see four composite Success Indices derived from your results.

Motivation Potential Assessment

30–58 forced-choice triads. You see three activities and must rank which you prefer most, then second. Your responses build a profile across 7 motivational DRIVERS. This profile is compared to the role's expected motivation pattern, not scored right or wrong, but matched against fit.

Why the composite score matters

Your employer receives a single Wonscore composite, but it is built from all three components, weighted for the specific role. A strong cognitive result does not offset a poor personality fit score. Candidates who ace the cognitive section and walk in unprepared for the personality and motivation sections are at a structural disadvantage against candidates who prepared for all three. This is the gap most prep products leave open.

Component 1 of 3

Cognitive Ability. 50 questions, 12 minutes, 14.4 seconds each.

The hardest time pressure in pre-employment testing. 17 question types, no calculator, one composite score employers compare against role benchmarks. Most candidates lose points to pacing, not knowledge. The fix is interactive.

Component 2 of 3

Personality. 150 statements where the algorithm scores your pattern, not your answers.

"No right answers" is a testing instruction, not a description of how results are evaluated. Two things determine your score: consistency across 150 items (the algorithm flags contradictions) and job-fit alignment for the role you are applying to. Wonderlic translates your raw Big Five into 4 Success Indices employers actually use to make hiring decisions.

🤝

Teamwork Index

Collaborative vs. independent work style. High value for customer-facing, healthcare, and support roles.

Motivation. Forced-choice triads where authenticity outperforms strategy.

Every triad presents 3 activities that look roughly equally appealing. Your choice reveals motivational priority, not preference. The algorithm compares your profile to the 6 RIASEC categories expected for your target role. Candidates who haven't seen this format hesitate or pick the "impressive" answer. The Differentiator

The only Wonderlic prep that measures your delta on all three components.

Every component opens with a baseline measurement and closes with a re-assessment. Cognitive: predicted Wonscore points. Personality: OCEAN percentiles plus Profile Match. Motivation: RIASEC fit plus Profile Match. You see exactly what changed before you sit for the real test. No other Wonderlic prep on the market produces a measured before-and-after across all three components.

Role-specific preparation

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Wonderlic Select

What is Wonderlic Select (Wonscore)?
Wonderlic Select, also called Wonscore, is a three-part employment assessment: Cognitive Ability (50 questions, 12 minutes), Personality (150 Likert-scale statements), and Motivation Potential (30–58 forced-choice triads). Your employer receives a single composite score that reflects all three components, weighted for your specific role. It is used by Fortune 500 and mid-market employers as a more complete candidate evaluation than the standalone WPT-R.
Are there right and wrong answers on the personality section?
No, but that's not the same as saying anything goes. The personality assessment is scored on two dimensions: consistency (do your answers align with each other across 150 items?) and job-fit (does your profile match the benchmark for the role?). The algorithm contains validity scales specifically designed to detect inflated, inconsistent, or socially desirable response patterns. Authentic, consistent answers outperform maximized answers. Our add-on module explains how this works in detail.
How is Wonderlic Select different from the standard WPT?
The Wonderlic Personnel Test (WPT-R) is a standalone 50-question cognitive ability test, fast, no calculator, 12 minutes. Wonderlic Select adds a personality assessment (Big Five / OCEAN, 150 items) and a motivation assessment (forced-choice triads across 7 DRIVER profiles). The employer receives a composite score from all three, not just the cognitive result. If your employer specifically sent you a "Wonscore" or "Wonderlic Select" link, you're taking the three-component version.
What are the Wonderlic Success Indices?
The Success Indices are four composite scores derived from your Personality results that translate your Big Five profile into role-relevant ratings. They are: Teamwork Index, Work Discipline Index, Managerial Potential Index, and Customer Service Orientation. Work Discipline is the strongest across-the-board predictor in research. Each index is weighted differently for different role types, a Customer Service role weighs Customer Service Orientation heavily; a management role weighs Managerial Potential. Our Wonscore add-on covers each index and maps it to specific role expectations.
What are the 7 Motivation DRIVERS?
The DRIVERS are: Doer (action, results), Thinker (analysis, depth), Creator (innovation, originality), Helper (service, support), Persuader (influence, communication), Organizer (structure, systems), and Values (purpose, ethics). Your forced-choice answers build a profile across all seven. That profile is compared to the DRIVER pattern expected for your target role. The goal is not to maximize any single DRIVER but to reflect an authentic profile that fits the role's requirements.
My test is in 48 hours. Is it too late to prepare for all three sections?
No, and the Wonscore is actually more forgiving for last-minute prep than the standard WPT, because the personality and motivation sections are untimed. Start with the AI cognitive diagnostic immediately, it tells you where your 3–5 hours of cognitive prep are worth most. Then work through the Wonscore add-on module to understand the scoring logic for personality and motivation. You don't need to memorize anything for those sections, you need to understand how they work. That takes 1–2 hours. The time you have is enough.
Will my employer see my practice scores or that I used a prep course?
No. WonderlicTestPrep.com is completely independent from Wonderlic, Inc. and from your employer. There is no connection between our platform and the Wonderlic testing platform. Your practice results, your purchase, and your use of this course are private and visible only to you.

The Wonscore tests three things. Prepare for all three.

Every week, candidates lose job offers they would have received if they'd prepared for the personality and motivation sections. Don't be one of them.
